Soldotna

Our big Alaskan vacation started in Soldotna. After a short night in Anchorage, Laura and I picked up our rental jeep and drove a couple hours south to meet up with my Mom and David. The next day we had to improvise our activities because the halibut fishing trip David and I had booked was cancelled due to weather. It was unfortunate but we most of the day with an impromptu trip to Homer. We ended the day with dinner at Soldotna’s fanciest restaurant. Actually the day hardly ends in the summer so with plenty of 9pm daylight we went on a short hike through a nature preserve. Catching a mama moose and her cafe was an exhilarating part of the hike if not a little scary.
