This past weekend was my first real visit to Malibu after nearly 15 years in LA. Most of my Malibu experiences have involved biking down the 1 on my way to/from Topanga and trying not to get run over. And while I still despise the design of the city around a major highway and the resulting public safety nightmare, I get the appeal. You merely walk from one side of a house to the other and you are transported to a serene beach environment. The reason for our visit mostly revolved around the 40th birthday celebration of a very good friend. For a lot of folks in our friend group this party served as their first kid-free event in years. It was well worth it. We ate through a multi course 5 hour dinner on a private ocean deck at Nobu. We felt very fortunate to have such an experience. Laura and I crashed at a local motel just down the street and made our way back home the next morning.
