As previously mentioned, phase 2 of the Maine journey involved a 5 hour drive from Boston to Gouldsboro, ME but I wasn’t about to do that trip all in one shot. After securing our car rental (Barbie Jeep) we were well on our way North. I did a little reckon the night before and scouted a small airfield café in New Hampshire where we stopped for a late breakfast. The café was quaint and offered great views of the private aircraft coming and going while we dined on burgers. The next surprise stop was the USS Albacore just near the NH/ME boarder. I had no idea what to expect. I just knew that it was a submarine and walking through them is cool. Laura humored me and we got some great shots of us working the wheel and periscope.
Our final stop before Gouldsboro was Allagash Brewing in Portland, ME. I had long been a fan of Allagash White so I was excited to see what other local offerings the brewery provided. Unfortunately, I found the brewery a little lacking when we realized that flights were not available. Undeterred, we discovered 4 other small breweries just across the street from Allagash. Laura and I decided that Foundation Brewing looked to be the most accommodating with their colorful décor so we dropped in for a pair of flights. The staff was much friendlier and even passed us some recommendations for places to visit in Bar Harbor.
