The rain passed by Sunday leaving us with a gorgeous day for activities. I got started early with another bike ride around the Schoodic Peninsula. I varied the ride a bit with a quick hike to the top of Schoodic Head and an exploration of the gravel roads that cut through the peninsula. At around 11, I met back up with the rest of the party to pick up our kayak rental gear. After we were setup with lifejackets and paddles, we headed over to Jones Pond. To call it a pond seems like a disservice as it was easily the size of a lake. The conditions on the pond were ideal. There wasn’t a breath of wind and we caught a couple seaplanes take off. After a couple hours of paddling, we had picnic lunch on the bank of the pond and cooled off with a quick dip.
The rest of the day was spent securing ingredients for our dinner from Chipman’s Wharf. They offered an impressive array of seafoods including 5 varieties of oysters. Laura and I suggested cooking clams in the style of “moules frites” which is to say, steamed in wine and served with french fries. It was a great success and we of course accompanied them with several oysters.
