Corea

Our 4th of July in Maine began with my Mom and I enjoying another bike ride around the peninsula. We explored more of the Schoodic off-road trails before merging back onto the familiar Park Loop Road. At mid-day we arrived in the town of Corea where we met up with David and Laura for a 2 hour lobster boat tour. After a quick briefing from Captain Dan, we set off in search of harbor seals among the small rocky islands just off Corea Harbor. We then moved further into open water to the Petit Manan Lighthouse to find Puffins. The finale of the tour was of course lobster fishing. Captain Dan pulled up about 5 of his traps and collected about a dozen lobsters all while explaining the lobster trade to us. The climax of the tour had to be the massive 9 pound lobster we pulled on the final trap. Captain Dan assured us it was actually too big to keep so we reluctantly threw it back but not before getting a photo op with the big bug. We all went home with a lobster caught on the tour and committed them to lobster rolls for dinner. Everyone was supremely happy with the results and we concluded the day stuffed with lobster and no real fireworks. Perfect.
