I snuck in one more camping trip before baby primetime with my annual solo retreat to Catalina. The weather was cool for May and like the rest of 2023 in California, a little wet. No heavy rain fell but heavy cloud cover was present most of the time, especially at high elevation. The up side to the moisture was wildflowers were popping everywhere and the hillsides were greeener than usual. Another perk was the abundance of fauna wildlife. I’ve never seen so many California quail and foxes. And while the smaller critters were plentiful, the buffalo sightings were low this year with only one lone specimen. But I’m actually pretty good with that because they tend to make me nervous when multiples crowd the road.
