Savannah

Savannah, Georgia has been at the top of Laura’s travel list for a long time. So when it was suggested for our family spring break trip, it was a no brainer. One of the main reasons Laura has wanted to go to Savannah is because it was the America’s first master planned city and much of the original design is retained in the downtown area. A quick look of Savannah on a map shows a neat grid of streets with an even spacing of parkette squares every couple blocks. The walkability of the city paired with the lush Spanish moss and old architecture makes it a pretty unique place.

We took breaks from Tybee to spend a couple days and evenings exploring the core historic district of Savannah. It was only after we arrived that we learned of the impending St. Patrick’s Day Parade planned for that Saturday. We ignorantly had no idea when planning the trip that we had selected the week before the 2nd largest St. Patrick’s Day parade in the US. As a result, the downtown area got progressively crowded during the week. By Friday evening, parking was nearly impossible and the streets were full of green clad parade goers looking to get their pre-game on. Not our vibe. We were all too happy to get out of there before the actual parade day. Not to say it dampened our overall experience too much. We still worked in a historic trolley tour, a spooky ghost tour, and some fancy dinners/brunches.
