Yellowstone NP

The second full day of our WY trip was spent at Yellowstone. Once again we found it necessary to get the group moving early to beat the crowds. Predictably our first stop was Old Faithful. I was pretty impressed by the Disneyfication of the area surrounding the classic geyser but we only scratched the surface of what there was to explore staying just long enough to see Old Faithful pop off. Next we scooted to the Grand Prismatic Spring. I found the pools and springs of this natural wonder much more interesting. Lunch was had at Mammoth Springs at the north end of the park and the day concluded with a long cruise back home spotting wildlife. While I didn’t get any great photos, our car spotted a couple bears and one of the most impressive Elk bucks I’ve ever seen.

On the final day of our trip, when everyone had headed back to LA, our family returned to the Old Faithful area and explored the other less popular geysers we had missed. We also swung into the historic Old Faithful hotel for a couple cocktails at the “Bear’s Den”. Yellowstone definitely lives up to it’s reputation as biggest, oldest, and best amongst the national parks.
