This year’s downtown Ciclavia route featured the new and extremely popular 6th Street Viaduct Bridge. The bridge is a popular filming spot in LA and connects the downtown arts district to the east side. It got a lot of attention when it first opened to car traffic a couple months ago. For whatever reason, people lost their shit and attempted all manner of dangerous activities which led to the bridge being shut down multiple times. Most stunts were a selfish attempt to get brief internet fame but the silver lining is folks got to experience the car-free space as a park for walking and cycling. The experience is unique for a dense urban area and although I know it won’t happen, I’d love to see the no-car status made permanent.
