Catalina 2026

Getting to Catalina for my annual solo retreat proved difficult this year. Both weather and personal commitments caused me to reschedule twice which made getting my preferred camping spots very difficult. On the plus side, because I was going so much later in the year, there was virtually no chance of having a soggy final day like the previous 2 years. On the negative side, for the first time in 10 years, I ran the route backwards. Typical route runs from Two Harbors to Avalon because if you start in Avalon you have to climb out of a big hole to get up on Airport Road. The climb was challenging and I made it even more difficult by opting for the scenic dirt road over the paved direct route. Overall another great trek across the island with zero bison sightings.
